The coins of this type of Kumaragupta are very rare.
Only two other coins are known to exist of this type from the Bayana Hoard.
This type was previously unknown before the discovery of the hoard in 1946. Since then only one other coin has surfaced which is in the Shivlee Collection.
The Shivlee specimen is from the same die as the Bayana Hoard specimen and is described below. This coin is probably one of the most beautiful strikes and shows the advanced mastery of the mint masters of that time.
Obverse: Muscular King with beautiful curly hair standing to left, wearing dhoti, pearl necklace and earrings. Offering oblations on alter (off flan) with right hand, left hand on hilt of sword, which hangs down from his waist. Small attendant to kings left, holding a chattri (umbrella or parasol) over kings head. (Chattri can be seen off the left side of the coin in front of kings face).
Legend: Jayati..[mahitalam...]
Reverse: Goddess walking to left., wearing necklace and bangles and big earrings. Ribbon noose in right hand, left hand holds a lotus flower stalk.
