Ramagupta   (AD 370-375)

Ramagupta was the brother of Chandragupta II and is only known to exist from his Copper coinage.

Only a handful of coins have been attributed to him and all of these are in Copper.  No Gold coins of Ramagupta have been discovered so far.

A hoard of 25 Copper coins was found which included coins from all 3 types and for the first time included a coin of the Ashvamedha type.

A.S. Altekar in his book "Coinage of the Gupta Dynasty" refers to approximately 10 Copper coins were found in the Malwa region.

A few of the copper coins of Ramagupta from the Shivlee Collection are featured below with Garuda Obverse, Lion Obverse and the Ashvamedha type.

Weights of these coins vary widely ranging from a low of 0.4grams to a high of 1.8grams.
