Vishnugupta was the son of Kumaragupta II. His coins are highly adulterated with over 50% alloy.
So far only coins of Archer Type have been found in a weight range of 9.2 to 9.78gms.
These coins show the King standing with Bow, Vishnu under left arm, ru between the legs and Sri-Chandraditya on reverse.
This coin is extremely worn, which must account for its very low weight. Of the Vishnugupa coins, this is the coin with the lowest weight, 9.1 g = 140.4 grains. Most of Vishnugupta's coins weight around 150 grains.
Gupta and Srivastava's no. 237, from the Kalighat hoard as most other coins of this king, weighs only 9.2 grams.
No legible circular legend, the titles on the reverse usually off, the short line next to the left knee of the goddess seen in most, but not all dies of this type. There are traces of the letter 'ru' on the coin, but (as in many of these coins) it is barely on the flan and difficult to decipher.
